What to Pack for Your Jewish Sleepaway Camp

When packing for Jewish sleepaway camp, we recommend selecting items that your child will use often. Bug spray, allergy medication, and sunscreen offer daily protection during outdoor activities. Here are some additional items to keep in mind when packing your child’s bag:

Casual and Solid White Clothing

For Jewish sleepaway camp, you should pack casual clothing for your child, including t-shirts and shorts. A private vendor does laundry once a week, and they return the clothing clean and neatly folded the next day. We advise parents to pack extra clothing to prevent their children from running out of fresh clothes during the week.

All campers and staff are required to wear full, solid white clothing on Friday evenings. If your child is worried about staining their white clothes before Friday events, it’s best to pack an extra set since clothes and bulky items cannot be sent to campers. On Kinder Ring Spirit Days, campers should wear items with a KR logo. Kinder Ring clothing can be purchased online before camp begins.

Sunscreen and Insect Repellant

Water-resistant sunscreen can protect your child from UV rays during outdoor and water activities, preventing sunburn. You can also choose to pack a sunburn treatment, like Aloe Vera, which provides instant relief for sunburn discomfort and itchiness. Bodies of water, like the lake at Kinder Ring, attract biting insects such as mosquitoes and flies. Insect repellant, which makes it difficult for bugs to locate and land on people, can help prevent your child from being bitten.

Spending Money

While we provide all the necessities for campers while in camp and on trips, you may choose to send additional spending money for your child. Our Camp Store offers beverages, souvenirs, and toiletry items like toothbrushes and toothpaste for purchase. Campers can also buy items during camp trips, which can include local attractions or overnight trips for older campers.

If you’d like your child to have additional spending money, we recommend fifty dollars in cash per camper. This money is kept in our camp safe until campers depart on an outing. You may provide us with your camper’s spending money when you first arrive on Opening Day or on Visiting Day.

Leave Medications at Home

No medications, including vitamins and over-the-counter medications, are allowed in a child’s bunk. We work with CampMeds to comply with strict state regulations. CampMeds is a pre-packaging medication program that has been in operation for over 16 summers. They will package, dispense, and ship medications directly to us.

When you enroll your child for a camp session, parents will be provided with all instructions for participation in our medication dispensing program. If your child has any prescriptions, they should be included in your camper’s medical forms. We can then make sure your child is cared for during their stay. If you have any questions about this policy and how your child will receive their medications, you may leave additional comments on our website’s inquiry form.
